Shine Your Light

As I look to the end of the school year (I personally can’t wait for 6th grade math to be behind us!) and eagerly look towards summer, I reflect on all the progress made and milestones reached by my children this year. Many of these achievements are an expected part of childhood, but they can’t be taken for granted. For many children, even the simplest task is an extraordinary challenge.

Autism has become the fastest-growing developmental disorder in the U.S, affecting 1 in 68 children and 1 in 42 boys. And the numbers are on the rise. While many of these children receive interventional services throughout the school year, the summer becomes a source of anxiety for their families because they are faced with a lack of suitable choices to fill the gap before the next school year starts.

In support of National Autism Awareness Month, True Science Cosmetics will be donating 10% of sales for the month of April to Camp Kehilla, a pioneer in special needs camping for over 20 years. Camp Kehilla provides a safe place for children with special needs to participate in a normative summer experience that many would not otherwise have. They focus on building social skills, lasting friendships and self-esteem.

We all want the opportunity for our children to just be themselves. Dr. Seuss said, “Today you are YOU, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.” We are happy to support an amazing place like Camp Kehilla where all children are encouraged to be themselves.

Shine on,

Lisa
